Posterized: The Story

He went up. The enemy went under.

On the court, getting posterized is the worst thing that can happen to you. Somebody rises up and dunks on you so hard the photo outlives the game. It gets printed, framed and hung on a wall. You are not the story anymore. You are the poster.

The design

Christ at the rim, halo burning, red cloak flying, ball going through the net. Under Him, flat on the floor, a horned devil who never had a chance. POSTERIZED across the bottom in gold. Painted like an old master, hung like a 90s poster on a bedroom wall.

Look where His heel lands

The first promise of the gospel is in the third chapter of the Bible. Right after the fall, God tells the serpent what is coming: "it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Genesis 3:15). The serpent gets a shot in. The heel gets bruised. But the head gets crushed. Look at the design again and look at where His foot comes down.

He made a show of them openly

The cross looked like the enemy's win. Friday night it looked over. Then Sunday came. Paul describes what really happened at the cross in words that sound a lot like a poster: "having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it" (Colossians 2:15). Not a quiet victory in a back room. A public one, out in the open, for everyone to see, forever.

He never needed the win

That is the line on the tee, and it is the whole point. This was never a close game. Christ did not scrape out a win in the last seconds. He already had it before the tip. The resurrection was the dunk the whole world gets to see.
